Doctor Castaño speaks fluent English and will run the consult in English if your kid or you prefer him to do it. Doctor Castaño graduated as medical doctor in 1990 (Javeriana University), and as ophthalmologist in 1995 (National University).

Later, he trained in ophthalmic oncology at the same Javeriana University (1996) and finally got a position for a formal fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, in 1997. He has been practicing clinical and surgical pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus for more than 20 years and besides his clinical activity, he has been teaching medical students and ophthalmology residents for years. He has published more than 100 scientific works and has been speaker more than 200 times in international and national ophthalmology conferences. Besides his scientific activity, doctor Castaño has also interest in art and history and enjoys giving talks on these topics. He also has published various fictional writings and directed a popular radio program called “Curious Sience”.

 

He has been distinguished by numerous institutions including the Colombian Society of Ophthalmology and the Javeriana University School of Medicine, and has been awarded with various prizes for his scientific works.

But for him, the more especial award is being able to help his patients and their parents.

 

Doctor Castaño sees children of all ages, from 0 to 18 years old. He also sees some adults, especially those with strabismus (misalignment of the eyes), and patients with ocular complications from neurological problems.  He deals with all the possible diagnosis and with the wide range of therapeutic options, from glasses prescription to complex surgical procedures. He also provides an especial environment for the little ones including preterm babies.
